#1 - Check your smoke detectors at the same time each year...Perhaps New Years Day, Fourth of July or when you change your clocks fordaylight savings time. Mark yourcalendar to remind yourself.

#2 - Use a vacuum with a hose attachment or a can of compressedair to clean small particles of dust out of the detector. This will help reduce false alarms.

#3 - Change the detector's battery annually. Most detectors use a 9V battery. These are the small rectangular batteries thatcan be purchased at most any store.

#4 - Don't want to change batteries each year? Purchase 9V Lithium batteries from a localbattery store like BatteriesPlus or from Lowes or Home Depot. They cost a little more but will last up to10 years.

#5 - Look at the date on your smoke detectors. If the home is over 10 years old and youstill have the original detectors... you need to replace the entiredetector. Residential smoke detectorsonly have a 10 year life.

#6 Look up the manual for your smoke detector and keep ithandy. Often people disconnect detectorswhen they start to malfunction rather than refer to a manual for a solution.

Global Security, Inc. would like to inform you about the potential impact of installing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service could have on your electronic security/life safety system. VoIP is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls via the broadband Internet instead of using a traditional landline telephone. We realize VoIP may be a useful technology for you, but we want to make sure you are aware of the affects it could have on your electronic security/life safety system. If you decide to install VoIP, please make sure the company you are working with knows that you have an alarm system.
The following are things to consider before installing VoIP:

If a phone number change is required when switching to VoIP, make sure to notify us about this change. The monitoring station has no way to contact you should an alarm be activated if we do not have your new number.
It may be difficult for you to connect with a local 911-dispatch center or for the dispatch center to identify the location of the Internet based 911 call.
In addition to alarm system battery back-up equipment, VoIP may need additional battery backup to maintain communications in the event of a power outage.
Routers, Modems, VoIP Interfaces all require battery backup power.
