Smoke Detectors Save Lives

SMOKE DETECTORS
SAVE LIVES!

We all have them in our homes but when was the last time you checked them?
According to the NFPA...
"In 2010, U.S. fire departments responded to 369,500 home structure fires. These fires caused 13,350 civilian injuries, 2,640 civilian deaths, $6.9 billion in direct damage.  ... Almost two-thirds (62%) of reported home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms."

Don't become part of a statistic... check your smoke detectors today!

Some tips from Global Security, Inc. ...

#1 - Check your smoke detectors at the same time each year... Perhaps New Years Day, Fourth of July or when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.  Mark your calendar to remind yourself.

#2 - Use a vacuum with a hose attachment or a can of compressed air to clean small particles of dust out of the detector.  This will help reduce false alarms.

#3 - Change the detector's battery annually.  Most detectors use a 9V battery.  These are the small rectangular batteries that can be purchased at most any store.

#4 - Don't want to change batteries each year?  Purchase 9V Lithium batteries from a local battery store like BatteriesPlus or from Lowes or Home Depot.  They cost a little more but will last up to 10 years.

#5 - Look at the date on your smoke detectors.  If the home is over 10 years old and you still have the original detectors... you need to replace the entire detector.  Residential smoke detectors only have a 10 year life.

#6 Look up the manual for your smoke detector and keep it handy.  Often people disconnect detectors when they start to malfunction rather than refer to a manual for a solution.

#7 Contact Global Security at 800-274-7080 to replace your old smoke detectors or with any questions you might have about your home smoke alarms.

VOIP Can Affect Alarm System Monitoring

Global Security, Inc. would like to inform you about the potential impact of installing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service could have on your electronic security/life safety system. VoIP is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls via the broadband Internet instead of using a traditional landline telephone. We realize VoIP may be a useful technology for you, but we want to make sure you are aware of the affects it could have on your electronic security/life safety system. If you decide to install VoIP, please make sure the company you are working with knows that you have an alarm system.
The following are things to consider before installing VoIP:

  • If a phone number change is required when switching to VoIP, make sure to notify us about this change. The monitoring station has no way to contact you should an alarm be activated if we do not have your new number.
  • It may be difficult for you to connect with a local 911-dispatch center or for the dispatch center to identify the location of the Internet based 911 call.
  • In addition to alarm system battery back-up equipment, VoIP may need additional battery backup to maintain communications in the event of a power outage.
  • Routers, Modems, VoIP Interfaces all require battery backup power.
  • There could be costs and modifications for your alarm system to communicate
We encourage you to check with us before making any changes to your existing telephone service. Through proper communication, we will be able to continue to provide monitoring services for your electronic security/life safety system. If you have questions regarding VoIP and how it may affect your electronic security/life safety system, please contact us at 1-800-274-7080.

Residential Security

The security of your family is at the forefront of everyday life. You want the best for your family and you want you and your family to feel safe inside your home, day or night.
To best protect your home, experts recommend a multi-zone approach. The first zone consists of the outside perimeter, such as the yard, driveway, and patio areas. The second zone consists of the immediate exterior of the home such as the doors and windows, while the third zone consists of the interior spaces of the home.
Global Security can provide various solutions for protecting each part of your world. From the smallest medicine cabinet to the entire outside perimeter of your home, Global Security has the experience to provide you with everyday peace of mind. Residential security doesn’t end with the prevention of burglaries  Imagine coming home and finding your house damaged, not from a burglar, but from a broken water pipe.

Today’s security systems can be equipped with various sensors to monitor smoke, carbon monoxide, water levels, equipment failure, and even temperature.

WaterCop

Global Security is proud to be a dealer/intstaller of WaterCop products to protect your home or business from water damage.

What is WaterCop?
WaterCop is an automated water valve which closes automatically whenever a waterleak is detected in your home. By placing wireless water sensors inside sink cabinets, near a washing machine or dishwasher, the sensors stand guard waiting to detect any leaking water. Sensors can be placed anywhere there is a potential for a water pipe to break and cause flooding to your home.

From the WaterCop website....
A WaterCop automatic water shut-off system will provide your home with round-the-clock indoor flood protection and works with wired and wireless flood sensors, wall switches, and most home security and home automation systems.

WaterCop offers homeowners many benefits:
  • Added property protection
  • Potential insurance savings (discounts or credits)
  • Integration with home security & automation systems
  • Protects 24 hours a day while you are home or away
  • Conserves water
  • Peace of mind
The WaterCop automatic shutoff valve installs on the main water line near the existing manual shut-off valve. WaterCop flood sensors install near water using appliances and in rooms where running water is present. When leaking water comes in contact with any of the sensors, a wireless signal is immediately broadcast to the WaterCop main valve causing the valve to close. Water flow is quickly cutoff to all areas of the home and any continuous flooding is stopped.
WaterCop offers additional options including:
  • A wall switch for convenient push-button main water control
  • Freeze sensors to help stop damage caused by frozen pipes
  • Easy integration with home security systems
  • Range extending wireless repeaters
Flood damage and losses related to plumbing problems can lead to higher home insurance costs and possibly the loss of affordable coverage altogether. The WaterCop system, when properly installed and maintained offers a proven method to effectively reduce the chance of catastrophic plumbing related flooding.

Fire Alarm Systems

Fire alarms are considered first and foremost a life safety system designed to detect fire at an early stage and provide adequate signaling to the building occupants to alert them of danger.  Regular inspection and maintenance is the most important aspect of a fire alarm system so that it is able to provide the necessary early warning needed to save lives.
Global Security offers a wide range of fire protection systems designed to help business owners comply with national, state and local fire alarm codes.  Our staff is trained in the proper design, installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of both local and monitored fire alarm systems.  Our technicians are registered Fire Alarm System Agents as required by the State of Florida.
As a client of Global Security, your fire alarm system will be tested annually to ensure compliance with national and state regulations.  A complete inspection and testing form is provided to document each inspection and to indicate any areas of the system which require attention.
Contact us today for a no obligation review of your property or fire alarm system.

Business Security

Business security is a serious matter.  Many companies like yours have trusted Global Security to provide the equipment and monitoring to protect their company’s people, products, and intellectual data.  By utilizing the latest security technology, Global Security has helped both business owners and government agencies reduce losses that occur from internal and external sources.
Alarm systems can track not only intrusions, but also employee attendance as well as environmental conditions and control systems.  Whenever any of these units are triggered or reach a preset limit, a signal can be sent to the monitoring station or directly to alphanumeric pagers.  Even when phone lines are down, alarm signals can be sent over an optional cellular radio network known as AlarmNet.
